Motorcycle riding tips

Storing your Motorcycle
Outside a single white snowflake falls... Disbelief falls on your face as another snowflake falls... Then you realize, another riding year over and it's time to put the bike away for the winter. This is the time to get in that last few riding days and put our bikes properly away for the winter so they are ready for the next riding season to start again.   More

> How to prepare yourself for winter
In winter you need to protect yourself from the cold and damp as well as from other vehicles. You can ride anywhere and anytime as long as you’re warm, dry and have good visibility.
OK, so riding in the colder weather does require a steely nerve and meticulous dressing-up ritual akin to a medieval knight suiting up for battle. In fact, let’s think about riding through winter in this vein; with the correct equipment, the cold and wet can easily be defeated .....  >More

How to Lay Down the Bike
When faced with a potentially dangerous situation, it's generally best to remain upright on your bike. Remember, tire rubber has an immense amount of traction. However, plastic, steel, and chrome (the materials found on the side of the bike) offer almost no traction. When you stay on your motorcycle instead of letting it slide, you'll be better able to stop in time or swerve out of the way. The only possible time where it might be a better idea to purposely end up on the ground is when it's better than the alternative, like going over a guardrail down a cliff or into the middle of a ten-car pile-up. Once you lay down a bike, you have absolutely no control .....  More

sidecar
Here's someone who has made from a Laverda motorcycle a sidecar. Not just any sidecar, but a supercar sidecar, including gulfwing doors. The sidecar part looks amazing, a true work of art. It's almost like it came straight out of the factory.work of art. It's almost like it came straight out of the factory .....  More

As this year is coming to a close, I would like to share with you, some experiences in supporting the various motorcycle events this year. I would first like to thank all our members for the hospitality shown throughout my travels this year.
I started my travels on March 21, 2010, en-route to Savannah, Georgia from Sacramento, California, and had the pleasure of deterring up to Virginia, and riding down to Savannah with “Sugar Brown”. My travels took me as far south as Miami Florida, and as far north as Tomah, Wisconsin. I completed this year’s ride on November 21, 2010. The total accumulated mileage for this trip is 52,047 miles, and I have reached 314,314 miles on my odometer (2002 Honda Gold Wing). I have included my full itinerary at the end of this writing.
Some highlights of my travels were the rides provided by some of our chapters, specifically: Savannah, Georgia; Tallahassee, Florida; Huntsville, Alabama; Columbus, Ohio; NW Wisconsin; Orlando, Florida; Roanoke, Virginia; Birmingham, Alabama; Central Virginia; and Clarksville, Tennessee. I must make special mention of "Gunslinger" from our Central Virginia chapter, who took me on a ride that was very special with switchbacks and all. These chapters displayed the sport of motorcycling, which was enjoyed by all, and displayed in part, what our organization is about. The fellowship our members show among each other and the public is heart- warming.
I did set out to visit as many chapters as I could, by identifying our various events from our National Riding Schedule. I do hope that more chapters post their events in the future, so our members can support their activities. I was able to cover all the chapters in Florida this year, and plan to complete other states next year.
I wish all our members safe riding and Happy Holidays, and extend an open invitation to all members to join me next year, as I tour throughout the country. Download
